It’s blueberry season in Arkansas, and they are finally showing up in the farmers markets and available on our U Pick Farms,  We will eat our share of them while they are in season, and one of the ways we do that is in the Berry Tempting Blueberry Smoothie.  It’s such a great and healthy way to start the day.  And can you say, “easy?”

In case you haven’t heard or noticed, we’ve been under a rain deluge for the past month.  It’s been virtually impossible to get into the fields to pick, plant or harvest.  Hopefully, we’ll have several days of sunshine that will not only benefit our crops but our moods as well.

Not complaining though.  We are fortunate not to be under a drought like most of California.  I will count my blessings and pray for our farmers who have lost much of their spring crops.

We were talking blueberries, weren’t we?  That was the topic of my last THV11 session on June 16.  I hope you were able to tune in.  If not, you can check it out on the THV web site.

Blueberries are so nutritious.  We try to eat them in some fashion every day.  They are widely available year round in our local groceries, but I still think that the fresh local ones are the best.  Besides, I’m all about supporting our area farmers and their products.

I wrote a piece for Taste Arkansas called Tips for Choosing the Best Ripe Summer Berries where I discussed not only the nutritional value but the ways to pick and store fresh berries.  Berries probably take up more space in my freezer than just about anything else, and I am always looking for flavorful and innovative ways to use them.  This simple Berry Tempting Blueberry Smoothie is just one of them.

Please share links and ways you like to use blueberries.  Who knows?  I just might be using some of them on This Morning for the next blueberry segment.
