Thanks for joining me for Week 5 of 2012 Merry Merry Munchies.
This is your opportunity to share those special treats that you love to serve during the holiday season.
Feel free to offer however many dishes you wish each week. Please do not link up your giveaways or linky parties without offering a dish for Merry Merry Munchies.
As always, please link back to http://diningwithdebbie.blogspot.com from your MMM selected post.
Be sure to enter the Rafflecopter generator each week to be entered for the gift certificate to be given away on Dec. 20. Be sure to give the page time to load.
I’m looking forward to partying with you.
The week of December 17, I will do a wrap-up post highlighting those entries that have received the most attention. Get your family and friends involved! Tell them to come here and comment on your entries. The three most popular choices will receive an added entry in the giveaway.
Let me just start off by saying that this pie is hazardous to your waistline. But, boy, is it good.
This Toll House Pie happens to be one of my all-time favorites. It’s rich. It’s chocolatey. It’s decadent. It is absolutely delicious, and you must give it a try.
My version varies from the original one in some minor ways.
Ingredients
- 1 9-inch unbaked pie shell (I use a tart pan with a removable bottom.)
- 1 cup butter, browned and strained, cooled to room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/3/cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 cups finely chopped toasted walnuts
- whipped cream, whipped topping, or ice cream (optional – yeah, right!)
Instructions
- Melt butter over low heat until it has become liquefied. Turn the heat up to medium to brown the butter. Watch carefully to prevent the butter from burning. When it stops sputtering, strain the browned butter through cheesecloth or a coffee filter to remove any sediment. Allow to cool to room temperature.
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
- In a large bowl, beat the two eggs until foamy. Beat in flour and sugars until well blended.
- Blend in the browned butter.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts. Pour into the pie shell.
- If using the tart pan, set it on a cookie sheet during baking.
- Bake approximately 1 hour.
- I allow it to cool before slicing, but I warm the pieces slightly in the microwave before serving.
- Top with whipped cream, whipped topping or ice cream.
