Welcome to this week’s edition of Merry, Merry Munchies which is being combined with Crock Pot Wednesday.  I hope you will link up to share a favorite or two and also be entered for the giveaway to be awarded the first week of January 2011.  Just follow this link to Mister Linky.

One of the slow cooker cookbooks that I use frequently is Slow Cooker: The Best Cookbook Ever by Diana Phillips.  I haven’t found one yet that we did not enjoy.

I really like this Maytag Blue and Walnut Dip with Apple Dippers.  It is full of flavor and can be a nice change from chips and dip.

Maytag Blue Cheese ranks among the world’s great cheeses.

Maytag Blue and Walnut Dip with Apple Dippers.
2 8-ounce packages cream cheese at room temperature
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 Tablespoons Ruby Port (I subbed apple cider.)
6 drops Tabasco
1 cup chopped walnuts (I prefer to toast them.)
2 cups crumbled Maytag blue cheese (or your favorite brand)
4 to 6 Granny Smith apple, cored and cut into 8 wedges each, for serving (I like to use both red and green apples at Christmas.)
Crackers, optional
Coat the insert of a 1 1/2-3 quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.  Put the cream cheese, mayonnaise, port, Tabasco, walnuts and blue cheese in a mixing bowl and stir until well blended.
Transfer the mixture to the slow-cooker insert.  Cover and cook on low for 2 to 3 hours, until heated through and bubbly.
Serve from the cooker set on warm with the apple wedges and crackers.
Serves 8.
